Well, it's been a minute since the last LMR Podcast and final Let Me Ride party w/ DJ Technics @ Fluid Nightclub. In short, Joey Breakdown has taken some time to study lion taming in Russia. He has also rediscovered his love of the Jungle.... more on that later! Art Cuebik has finally kicked his addiction to Chat Roulette and earned a doctorate in bassology. He even developed a new iPhone app called the iTight. As for Illy Emcee, he has been constantly telling people to TightenUp! and down the east coast as well as making Rave Rap video's with Double on the Rocks. Check out the video here. Danger

French electro artist "Danger" (née Franck Rivoire) recently put out a series of youtube videos to promote his forthcoming EP release "09/17 2007"


An unabashedly endearing homage to 16-bit beat em' up game intros from the late 80s and early 90's like Final Fight and Streets of Rage, it begs the question: is the 80's retro past it's prime and 90's chic in?




The philosophical implications of this promo, then, are profound. 90's gaming is back on the retro tip, with the electro artists like Danger and Australian film maker/digital artist Paul Robertson adopting and recontextualizing the aesthetic in their works.



In other words, 16-bit graphics and, as evident from listening to artists like Danger, 90's Yuzo Koshiro-meets-Derrick Carter-by-way-of-pre-Daft Punk-Roulette electro is "in". That puts us in 2010, thinking back to when I first scratched M.E.T.H.O.D. Man over Bangalter's "Spinal Scratch" (also my Xbox Live gamertag!) in 1997 while getting nostalgic about a video game that was released in 1991 (Streets of Rage). The 60s came back "in" after 25 years, the 70s went out in 91, and now we're involved in retro dip of about 20 years, slowly closing in on itself. What does this say about our World? Are we going to keep chasing our cultural tails? In '08, was 1995 in? Then, last year, in '09, '96 must have been in (it must be what with every bloghouse remixer trying to ape "Homework"), and in 2010, '97 is in (even though it was really 1991, which is when 1970 went "out") and in 2011 . . . 2001 is in? Perhaps in 2023, 2023 will be "in" and we'll start making some sort of progress.
